Davis double sends The Stags top

Ryan Davis scored twice in a hot afternoon at The Daly Ground as Whitehill & Bordon beat Crofton Saints 2-1 and move to the top of the Hampshire Premier League.
It was hard graft in the heat from the first whistle. The opening 45 minutes were tight and closely fought, with neither side able to find a way through, and the sides went in level at 0-0.
Both teams came out for the second half with more urgency, and it was The Stags who found the breakthrough midway through. Ciaran Judd picked out Davis with a well-weighted pass, and the striker took his moment — lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and into the net to make it 1-0.
Crofton Saints refused to let it go. The visitors responded well and levelled the game.
The winner came from the right ball at the right time. Issac Winzar delivered the cross, and Davis was there again to slot home and restore the lead — his second of the afternoon and the goal that settled it. The Stags saw out the closing stages to take all three points.
It's another well-earned win and a strong start to the new campaign. Four wins and one defeat from the opening five fixtures puts Whitehill & Bordon top of the Hampshire Premier League — a position the club will be determined to hold on to.
