Whitehill & Bordon FC 1-3 AFC Shirley – Match Report

Whitehill & Bordon FC fell to a 1–3 home defeat against AFC Shirley on Saturday, despite a spirited performance from a depleted squad.

The Stags made the perfect start when Lee Coyne fired us into an early lead, giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about in the opening stages.

AFC Shirley looked for a quick response and were awarded a penalty after a collision between their forward and our goalkeeper. The spot kick rattled the underside of the bar but bounced out, keeping us ahead.

The visitors continued to press, however, and were given another penalty later in the half. This time the effort was converted, bringing the score level at the break.

Midway through the second half Shirley edged in front with a well-taken finish. Whitehill & Bordon pushed hard for an equaliser, committing men forward, but in the closing stages we were caught on the counter and the visitors added a third to seal the points.

Despite the result, the Stags showed commitment and fight throughout, with several players stepping up in the absence of key squad members.

Next up, we’ll be looking to regroup and bounce back on Monday.
